Carolina Panthers Owner David Tepper has been charged a hefty fine after an outburst at Sunday’s football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
“All NFL personnel are expected to conduct themselves at all times in ways that respect our fans and favorably reflect on their team and the NFL,” the NFL said in a statement, per Pelissero.
Tepper releasedhis own statement, telling the NFL Network, “I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday.”
“I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior,” he added.
Representatives for the NFL and Tepper did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The incident happened shortly after Panthers’ quarterback Bryce Young was intercepted in the latter half of the game, according to the NFL Network. The Panthers ended up losing the game 26-0, dropping the team down to a record of 2-14 in the league with their latest defeat.
It also seems that the Panthers have a rocky road ahead. While having one of the worst records in the league often means a higher draft pick in the NFL, the Panthers traded their No. 1 overall pick to Chicago in order to pick up Young, according to theAssociated Press, which means they have less of a chance to improve the team with another top player.

The team will also be searching for another head coach after Frank Reich parted ways with the Panthers in November after just 11 games,Sports Illustratedand the AP reported.
The Panthers are next scheduled to go up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Jan. 7.
Tepper isn’t the only NFL owner who has been fined for his conduct in recent years. In 2009, late Tennessee Titans owner Bud Adams was fined $250,000 for making an obscene gesture at Buffalo Bills fans while celebrating the team’s victory, per the AP.
