The couple welcomed Jacob on Jan. 21, 2019, after theAmerican Idolalum previously revealedshe had suffered three miscarriagesfrom 2017 to 2018.

“We initially in our lives kind of wanted our kids a little closer in age,” Underwood told PEOPLE in December 2019 of Jacob and his big brotherIsaiah Michael, who turns 6 next month. “That didn’t happen,because God has a different plansometimes.”

In September, the country star opened up about howspending time with her boyshas been a silver lining of being stuck at home amid thecoronavirus pandemic.

“We’re really lucky. We have some space around us, so we’ve been utilizing that space and we’ve been outdoors a lot,” she said during a virtual appearance onToday. “It’s been good, and they’re adventurous little boys and it’s great for us to just be able to get out. I’ve never been in one place for this long in the past 15-plus years of my career.”

“So it’s been really greatto just really get to know themand watch them grow — especially Jake,” Underwood added. “It’s such a critical time in his life and I’m never gonna get it back. So we’re just trying to enjoy it.”
