Catherine O’Harais not one to judge Kate and Peter McAllister for leaving their son behind in twoHome Alonemovies.

After she famously exclaimed “Kevin!” onscreen in 1990 when she realized she went to Paris withoutMacaulay Culkin, her fictional son, O’Hara, 69, and her husband, Bo Welch, had a real scare with their sons Matthew and Luke (who are now adults.)

“We were in New York once; I think it was New York. Bo and I got on the subway, we turned around, the doors are closing, and they weren’t on,” she recalls. “I screamed and people screamed with me. Everybody joined in.”

Luckily the doors reopened, and the boys made it on. “It makes me sick to think what could have happened,” says O’Hara, who’s starring in the new action-comedyArgylle.

“What happens? You’re on the train, it goes to the next stop. And you think, are they going to stay in that spot? Are they going to be safe? Will we go back? Will they think, ‘Oh, I’ll get on the next train and go there?’” says O’Hara. “We didn’t have phones.”

While that experience was horrifying, O’Hara has nothing but good memories of makingHome Alone, which she calls a “perfect movie.”

“It was lovely. All those kids that played our children were just lovely,” she says.

“[Director] Chris Columbus, lovely man. He’s a family guy himself. I think he had like five kids already at the time. And [screenwriter]John Hughes. John Hughes wasn’t there a lot, but wrote such a beautiful script, obviously,” O’Hara continues.

O’Hara recently reunited with Culkin athis Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremonyand paid tribute to him while he received his star.

“You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” she told Culkin from the podium.

“And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion. I’m so proud of you,” she added, joking aboutHome Aloneand its 1992 sequel,Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
