Tanna Rae Wroblewski’s cause of death has been revealed.
The 4-month-old infant, who died after she was exposed to extreme temperatures while aboard a boat with her family on Lake Havasu in Arizona last summer, died of complications of environmental heat exposure, PEOPLE confirms.
Hemorrhagic shock is when “severe blood loss leads to inadequate oxygen delivery at the cellular level,” per theNew England Journal of Medicine. The anoxic brain injury caused a cerebral edema. This means that the infant’s brain did not have oxygen, which then caused the brain to swell.
Before the Lake Havasu City Fire Department arrived at the scene, family members performed CPR on the infant, according to aGoFundMe pagecreated for the Wroblewski family. First responders then transported Tanna to Havasu Regional Medical Center, per the MCSO statement.
A relative performed CPR on the infant for five minutes before first responders arrived, per the medical examiner. The first responders also performed CPR before she was airlifted to Phoenix Children’s Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
