Chappell Roan’s 2025 Grammys look is almost as old as she is.
The 26-year-old pop star (whose real name is Kayleigh Rose Amstutz) touched down on theGrammysred carpet in a head-turning archival look for her debut at music’s biggest night.
The pop star opted for a 2003 Jean Paul Gaultier dress from the spring/summer couture collection complete with the designs original colorful feather-like hat.
“Also got some long nails, a lot of glam today,” she told the Associated Press of her look on the red carpet.
E!’s fashion correspondent Zanna Roberts Rassi said on the live red carpet pre-show that Roan’s stylist Genesis Webb had this look on her vision board for 10 years and “slept with it in her room because it’s that precious.”

Roan also opened up to the AP about her explosive year, admitting she’s having “fun” with her career right now.
She also said she remains focused on rebuilding her community after the devastating Los Angeles fires.

“We lost so much. Like my community was lost,” she said. “I take [that] so seriously. But like, the fun of art and drag, I hold on to joy in these times and like, really lift the girls up, because we all lost. It affected us all. Just to be here at like such an iconic Grammys, I feel very honored. Yeah, at a point where it’s poignant and really really means a lot for people to donate.”

Her hit song “Good Luck Babe!” is up for record of the year, song of the year and best pop solo performance while her 2023 albumThe Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princessis nominated for album of the year and best pop vocal album. She’s also in the running for best new artist alongside Carpenter, Benson Boone, Doechii, Khruangbin, RAYE, Shaboozey and Teddy Swims. Roan willperformlater in the night.

“It’s Grammy week. I am very emo. My heart feels warm and fuzzy with all the support I have been given this past year. I hope you can understand that this has been incredible and scary and spiritual and confusing.”
She went on to share that she’s “been crying tears of joy and grief and feeling loved and lonely and free,” before thanking her fans. “Ultimately, I am grateful for every one of you who gave my music a little spin and showed your ass up to shows and festivals. Because yall are rockstars I feel like a rockstars :) Damn I am cheesy lowkey. Whatever anyway.”

Two months before the Grammys, Roan made her debut as onSaturday Night Live. Her appearance on the iconic late night show brought plenty of major fashion moments. For her performance of “Pink Pony Club” she channeled a bride of Frankenstein-inspired look featuring a glittery white sequin dress, then changed into a gingham two-piece and cowboy boots to introduced her new country-style song “The Giver.”

It also had a lot of moving parts, which required a three-member team and almost 20 days worths of work combined. Deatherage — who also designed Roan’s swan ensemble forThe Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon —and Katie Maimi worked on sewing the bodice and dramatic dragonfly wings jutting out from the hips, while Deatherage’s boyfriend Christopher Minafo created the dramatic headwear. It took the trio around 500 hours to complete.
“I think she is so visionary, and she has made such fun calls on when costumes will have their best moment,” he says of the singer.
