Chappell Roan accepts the Best New Artist award onstage during the 67th Annual GRAMMY

Chappell Roan’sGrammyaward was a long time coming.

In aresurfaced video from 2012 going viral on X, a young Roan, now 26, spoke at Springfield’s Got Talent competition, manifesting her eventual victory at the2025 Grammys. “I want to win a Grammy,“the Missouri nativesaid in the clip, holding up a massive novelty check for $1,012.

“So that’s my goal. And I’m going to do whatever it takes to get it. So that’ll be the fight for me.”

The singer did just that —performing “Pink Pony Club"andtaking home the gramophonefor best new artist at this year’s event on Sunday, Feb. 2 after being nominated for six awards including record of the year and album of the year.

In her impassioned acceptance speechon Sunday, the “Red Wine Supernova” performer called for the music industry to provide better healthcare to its artists.

“I told myself, if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels in the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists,” she said reading from her notebook onstage.

Roan, who wasopen about her mental healthin the past, revealed that she had been signed onto a record label as a minor and when she was dropped, she had no experience. “Like most people, I had a difficult time finding a job in a pandemic and could not afford health insurance.”

Roan continued: “So record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees with a livable wage and health insurance and protection. Labels, we got you, but do you got us?”

Roan previously dreamt about performingonSaturday Night Livein an old Facebook post shared onInstagramdating back to 2011.

“I am determined to be onSNL,” she wrote at the time. Thirteen years later, Roan found herself as the musical guest at Studio 8H withJohn Mulaneyhosting that night.

InNovember 2024, she performed"Pink Pony Club” and an unreleased track called “The Giver” on the comedy show.
