“I’ve said this before, so I haven’t been fired for saying it, but I’ll say it again. I would make up the report sometimes because A., the coach wouldn’t come out at halftime or it was too late and I was like, ‘I didn’t want to screw up the report,’ so I was like, ‘I’m just gonna make this up,' " Thompson, 41, said.

“No coach is gonna get mad if I say, ‘Hey, we need to stop hurting ourselves, we need to be better on third down, we need to stop turning the ball over and do a better job of getting off the field.' Like, they’re not gonna correct me on that,” she added.
Thompson, who is now aFox NFL Kickoffpresenter and host for Amazon’sThursday Night Football, explained why she believes she is at a great point in her career.
“Shoutout to Amazon for giving us the runway to be ourselves,” she said. “I don’t need to tell you. You’ve made a very good living off of being yourselves and when an employer allows you that, same at Fox, they’ve always let me who I am. Good, bad, or indifferent.”
Thompson hopes that viewers see how she and her fellow broadcasters are “authentic.”
“We aren’t polished,” she said. “I mean, there’s a time and a place to be professional, but at the end of the day, it’s football, it’s fun and it’s not that serious. So balancing information and entertainment is sort of the perfect 50/50 goal and that’s hopefully what we do every week.”

“I think that life sometimes has forced you to put on a tough exterior, but underneath, once that exterior is removed, she is one of the kindest and most gentle people that I know,” she said. “Wherever I’m at in my life, it could be 3 o’clock in the morning stranded beside the road and she’s done this in a different situation, she’s like, ‘OK, I’m doing this, I got this for you.’ She goes into full reactionary mode of fixing the problem. Erin is the motherly love. She’s very motherly.”
