Charlie Puthstarted off the new year with an unforgettable experience: Performing forQuincy Jones, one of his musical idols — at the legend’s home!

At the 2019Grammy Awardson Sunday, the singer, 27, opened up on the red carpet about his visit with the 85-year-old producer and artist, who was nominated for best music film for his Netflix documentaryQuincy.

Speaking with E!’sRyan Seacrest, Puth recalled his duet with Jones while re-watching the video hepreviously shared on Instagram. “That was Jan. 1 and I’ll never forget that,” Puth said.

He said he and Jones’ daughter Kidada are close and had been eating dinner at the Bel Air hotel when she asked a question.

“‘Hey want to go see my dad?’ ” he recalled her saying. I was like, ‘Of course, yeah!’ ”

Jones is also father to son Quincy Jones III as well as daughters Martina, Rachel, Jolie, Kenya and actress Rashida Jones, who co-directed his Netflix doc.

Puth, who lost his only 2019 Grammy nomination for best engineered album, non-classical, previously raved about his special time with the iconic musician.

“Quincy Jones is the reason why I even produce music. I never thought I’d be playing one of my favorite Quincy Jones songs in front of the man himself,” he captioned his Instagram video of the pair together.

“Thank you for an absolutely unforgettable night last night Q. And on the first day of the new year…wow!! And thank you @kidadajonesog for introducing me!” Puth wrote.

Jones, of course, is best known for producing legendary albums and singles such as Michael Jackson’sThrillerandOff the Walland Aretha Franklin’sHey Now Hey (The Other Side of the Sky)and USA for Africa’s “We Are The World.”
