Earlier in the day, the Gaineses kicked off the holiday with a family breakfast for their kids —sons Crew, 8 months,Duke, 9½, andDrake, 13, and daughtersEmmie Kay, 8½, andElla Rose, 12. Joanna posted a photo on her Instagram story detailing their “Valentine’s breakfast aftermath.”

In the photo, their breakfast table is covered in various food items, including fruit, quick bread, aheart-shaped box of chocolates, a platter of scones, mugs of coffee and cups of milk. A bouquet of roses sits in the middle of the table, while the kids’ clothing items pepper the rest of the room.

Chip and Joanna got candid with PEOPLE about their unconventional love story in a 2016 cover story.
“Match made in heaven is not the term you would use to describe us,” Joanna said. “But when we mixed our personalities together, it created a spark.”
“Early on we had our fair share of fights and figuring out where the boundaries were,” says Joanna. “He’s good at the big picture, and he’s good at risk. I like the details.”
But at the end of the day, they strike a one-of-a-kind balance together.
“Chip has always pushed me to be the best me,” Joanna says. “He empowers me to be confident.”
