Chris Brownis personally on the hook for more than a million dollars after skipping out on making payments on a loan used to open two Popeyes Chicken franchises.
Now Brown, 34, must respond to the new ruling within 30 days of its filing — or City National Bank can work with California to collect the debt and potentially seize assets, including property and money, from the singer.
Reps for Brown did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The Popeyes ordeal is not Brown’s only ongoing legal matter. In October 2023, Abe Diaw sued the “Forever” singer for allegedly hitting him in the face with a bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila in February of the same year at TAPE in London.
Diaw, who was 43 at the time, “ended up in the hospital with lacerations on his head and torn ligaments in his leg,” the lawsuit stated, adding that it left with him “permanent” damage and “severe emotional distress.”

Brown has along history of legal trouble, beginning in 2009 when he physically assaulted then-girlfriendRihanna. Rihanna was left with visible facial injuries and was hospitalized; Brown was subsequentlycharged with felony assaultand making criminal threats.
He pleaded guilty to a felony in June of that year andaccepted a plea deal of community labor, five years' probation and domestic violence counseling.

Most recently, in May 2023, several outlets reported that Brown andUshergot into a fightone day before they took the stage atLovers & Friends music festivalin Las Vegas.
This week, Brown announced dates for his upcoming 11:11 Tour, set for 26 dates throughout North America with opening acts Ayra Starr and Muni Long.
